Pastor James p. thompson, Jr.
Senior Pastor, Mt. Olive Baptist Church
Pastor Thompson was born in Memphis, Tennessee. He joined the Mount Olive Baptist Church in 1984 as a minister. In 1986, Rev. Thompson was selected to be the Youth Pastor and served in that capacity until 1994.
Pastor Thompson is married to Sis. Lalita Thompson and they currently live in Mansfield, Texas and have four children, Kanita, Jessica, James III, and Megan. He is the grandfather of five, Warren, Kaitlyn, Lennox, Yarah and McKenzie.
Pastor Thompson’s ministry began in February of 1984 at the historic Mount Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor N.L. Robinson. He served as Associate Pastor from 1984 until 1986; he then became Youth Minister from 1986 until 1994. Rev. Thompson was recommended by Senior Pastor Robinson and was unanimously confirmed Pastor of the Mount Olive Baptist Church in February 1994.
Pastor J. P. Thompson Jr., is the chosen successor to Sr. Pastor N. L. Robinson. His formal Confirmation Service was held on June 11, 2017, during the 10:25am worship service. Currently Pastor Thompson has four Sons in the Ministry and ten Deacons on Trial.
Pastor Thompson graduated from the University of the District of Columbia. He also attended the Southern Bible Institute and Dallas Theological Seminary. He graduated from the Truett School of Theology at Baylor University, where he received his Masters of Theological Studies. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Humanities from Southern Bible Institute where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board.
